Announcing AUDITIONS for "Enchanted April", a play by Matthew Barber, directed by Maren Caulfield. Show dates are March
This marvelous play centers on two unhappy London housewives who, feeling lost in their marriages, decide to rent a villa in Italy for a women-only holiday, recruiting two more women to share the cost; as they spend time together under the Italian sun, the four women initially clash but eventually bond and rediscover themselves, with their newfound sense of self sometimes threatened by the return of their husbands.
Auditions will be conducted by a cold reading of a selection of sides.
Read-through will be Friday, December 20 at 7:00 p.m.
Rehearsals are expected to be held three nights a week beginning the
week of January 6. The schedule will be finalized after all cast conflicts are received.
Please note that London accents are required unless otherwise noted. An attempt will be made to maintain realistic age ranges when casting relationships (i.e. husband and wife will appear to be within a few years of each other).
Cast Breakdowm
Lotty Wilton—(30-45) An eternal optimist who is somewhat dimmed by the circumstances of her times. Always hopeful at the risk of eschewing reality. Married to Mellersh, who does not tolerate her whims. The catalyst for the show!
Rose Arnott—(30-45) A prim and proper lady who is not one to daydream. Finds herself inexplicably drawn into Lotty’s scheme. Married to Frederick, whose lifestyle seems increasingly at odds with her own.
Caroline Bramble— (20s) Youthful and hip but somewhat withdrawn socialite who seems to always be keeping a secret. Hesitant to connect with the other women at first. Speaks fluent Italian.
Mrs. Graves— (60-75) A London matron who suffers no fools. Inflexible and not easily impressed. She butts heads with nearly everyone, but is also highly insightful and warms up to her companions.
Mellersh Wilton— (35-55) Married to Lotty. A lawyer by trade. Carries traditional expectations of his wife. Stuffy and always seeking upward social mobility. Must be comfortable with simulated nudity.
Frederick Arnott— (30-55) Married to Rose. A “bon viveur” poet who goes by the pen name “Florian Ayers.” Seems hopelessly at odds with his wife’s serious demeanor.
Antony Wilding— (25-35) The young owner of the Italian castle, San Salvatore. Charming and drawn toward beauty. He is a calming influence. Shares a deep bond with Costanza.
Costanza— (55-65) The longtime housekeeper of San Salvatore. Her lines are almost all in Italian. She is warm and caring except for when it comes to Mrs. Graves.
